History of Hockey
The game of hockey has been played for thousands of years, starting out life as a ‘ball and stick’ game (in the same way as golf was started actually) and eventually evolving into the field and ice hockey games we know today. If you think it’s pretty rough and tough, think yourself lucky you didn’t live in one of the English villages in the 17th and 18th centuries, when they held tournaments with around 100 men on each side, each fighting for their pride and manhood.

International Hockey League
The International Hockey League is a professional league which generally consists of seven teams who compete for the prestigious Turner Cup. Starting out life as the Colonial Hockey League in 1991, it became the United Hockey League in 1997, eventually becoming the International Hockey League in 2007.
Hockey’s International Year of Youth 2001
Hockey’s International Year of Youth in 2001 was hailed as a great success. There were 50 innovative ideas and ways to celebrate hockey around the world, and introduce this great game to places where hockey was either not played, or at least not very popular. Youth hockey has come a long way because of Hockey’s International Year of Youth and the good work has continued to this day.
Are Hockey Schools Effective
The only way to get good at anything is to practice, and with the combination of raw talent, dedication, the chance to practice and a great coach, you have a much greater chance of living the dream to becoming a National Hockey League player. Are hockey schools effective, well, they’re certainly the place to be if you want to live that dream. There are also some great hockey summer camps which are fun, whether you want to be a professional and improve your game or just hang out and make new friends through the holidays.
What are Hockey Clubs?
Hockey clubs are the real grass roots of the sport, often run by dedicated volunteers for the sheer love of hockey, and helping to open it up to the children within their local community. They’re generally non profit and supported through fund raising and local sponsorship and are the basis from where the stars of tomorrow are born. Many of these clubs run teams through the whole age range, from 4 year olds right through to top teens.
International Youth Hockey Events
There are some great International Youth Hockey Events which give the stars of the future a real chance to shine and make their way to the big time. The World Junior Ice Hockey Championships are run every year for the best national U20’s Ice Hockey Teams from around the World, and there are also championships for U18’s and U17’s.

Future of International Youth Hockey
Thanks to Hockey’s International Year of Youth 2001 the future of international youth hockey looks pretty rosy. A Youth Panel was begun with two main objectives, to provide a voice for the hockey youth of the world, and to help to continue with the promotion and development of worldwide youth hockey.
